The search for Metzler 880s & American Motorcycles of COS
I’ve been in desperate need of tires for about 1000 miles now. The Dunlop Cruisemax (Cruise CRAPS, in my humble opinion) had been bald since about 6000 miles; particularly the front. After extensive searching thought the forums over at thevmc.com I decided on the Metzler 880s. I called my local Victory dealer (Rocky Mountain Cycle Plaza) but they were always out of either the front or the back tire.

Maybe I’m being unrealistic, but I just got the feeling that RMCP was that interested in my business. I'm not bagging on RMCP, they have done right by me on parts in the past. In this case, however, no one ever offered to order the tires for me, hold one of the tires for me until the other came in, and they could never give me any reassurance that once I came in and bought them that they would be able to put them on for me.

So yesterday, I was making my bi-weekly call to RMCP about tires again…all they had were the CruiseCraps, and then for some reason it finally hit me: I had run into some plug fouling issues last winter (user error I now know) and had popped into American Motorcycles over off East Platte. While they don’t service Vics there, they tried to help me trouble shoot the problem anyway. I left there with the feeling that these guys gave a damn about their customers. Needless to say I called them up wondering if maybe they could point me in the right direction for tires and same day install.

The woman on the phone told me that THEY had the tires in stock, and that while they didn’t work on “metric bikes” (they sell Big Dog and seem to do a lot of Harley work) she would see if someone in the shop could install them for me. Sure enough she returned to the line saying that they would indeed be able to do it and they could do it TODAY if I wanted. When I got to the shop they took great care of me, the entire staff was very friendly and seemed very interested in seeing if there was anything else they could help me with while I waited. The lovely woman in the main show room offered me something to drink while I waited; she also chatted with me on and off during my two hour wait.

The prices of the tires were as cheap as I had seen them online with shipping and they incidental parts and labor seemed very fair. When my bike was done, they test rode it, washed it and pulled it around front for me ready to go. The mechanic shook my hand as he handed it off to me and thanked me for my business as had the owner as he was handing me my receipt. I left American Motorcycles with a real sense of appreciation and wishing that they would find themselves a Victory mechanic because they are the kind of shop I want to do business with over and over.

A big "Thank You" to everyone at American Motorcycles of Colorado Springs
