Over the years that we have had the 50 Pass program we have had many sign up and to date no one has completed the book and turned it in. That has now changed as two riders from Minnesota are now the first to turn in their books and earn their wings. I want to introduce you to Greg Moe and Randy Neumann who I met at the Rockyard in Castle Rock to review their books and photos and do the final sign off. First things first, we want to congratulate them on a job well done especially with only 6 weeks of planning!
I think we all learned something from their experience and there are some things we need to address. We will be re-writing the requirements as pass markers disappear due to all sorts of reasons, damage, construction or what have you, so effective immediately we will be accepting photos of a riders GPS screen overlay-ed with a picture of the bike, rider at the location. We also learned through this process that our coordinates which were taken from Google maps is in decimal and generally speaking GPS coordinates are in degrees, minutes and seconds. So we will be making changes to the log book to either provide detail on making the conversion or providing the coordinates in degree, minutes and seconds for GPS users. That will honestly be a winter project. We also missed at least one pass, Cottonwood Pass which has a clearly marked sign and can be reached by a paved road and removing passes like Black Sage which is only accessible by a dirt road. Are fifty possible...YES we know we have seventy two on pavement, do they all have signs I can't guarantee that as I don't control markers and whether CDOT keeps them in place or removes them. So GPS is highly suggested if attempting to complete the 50 Pass rider program. Greg and Randy have been very helpful and fantastic to work with and they will be aiding us as the program matures. We wish them well and hope they wear their wings with pride as they ride down the road. We congratulate them and hope you will too on the forum. I will be posting several photos in the Gallery of their photos and markers in general so that 50 Pass members can have an idea of what to look for. |
